School Play Street Event

We are excited that for two days in July, Myatt Garden will be implementing a School Play Street on the roads surrounding the school by closing the roads to all traffic between 3pm to 5pm.

Dates and Locations:

Friday 12th July (3-5pm) – for Rokeby Road and part of Upper Brockley Road by ‘the bank’ (western side of the school)

Thursday 18th July (3-5pm) – for Upper Brockley Road (partial) that runs past the school (eastern side of the school)

School Streets is a test programme (https://www.sustrans.org.uk/SustransSchoolStreets) that aims to ease the congestion, poor air quality and road safety concerns that many schools experience during drop-off and pick-up times, by facilitating timed traffic restrictions on the road outside the school gates.

Myatt Garden Primary School has permission from Lewisham Council to temporarily close the roads next to the school on the dates and times above.

Why are we doing this?  It’s a trial to see how School Street works in practice with a view to creating a real School Street that will be enforced by cameras or bollards.

What will happen?  The road will be closed to through traffic so cars that want to drive through the road, but not residents, will be restricted (residents will be receiving letters in the next few days).

From school closing until 4.30pm, the children will have an opportunity to play in the street, supervised by their parents.  We will have giant connect 4, hula hoops, skipping ropes, street chalk and other fun and games!  Come along and make the most of a car free street!

Who’s involved? Volunteer parents, residents and Myatt Garden School. Everyone in the community is welcome.

Can I get involved? Yes please!

We urgently need people to volunteer between 2.45pm to 5pm to help steward the event on both of the dates above.  Please get in contact via the details below or directly with the school if you can help.

We hope we have covered the key questions.  However, if you have any thoughts, concerns or feedback you’d like to share.  Please contact the Myatt Garden Clean Air Campaign by email:
