Dear Parent/Carer,

Anglo-Saxon and Viking Workshop
To start our new topic called ‘Settlers’ in the spring term, we have invited a visitor to school on Wednesday 7th January 2015 from the Longship Trading Company who specialise in workshops for children which cover the Anglo-Saxon and Viking invasions of Britain. The children will have the unique opportunity to not only see, but touch, smell and wear a variety of period artefacts, both real and reproduction, which cover all aspects of daily life. The children will also take part in various role play activities to gain an understanding of what life was like during the period.

This will take place in school during the school day. We are committed to providing enrichment activities of school trips and organisations visiting the school but can only do so with your support. We are asking for a contribution of £6.50 for this event. Please bring this to your child’s class teacher as soon as possible.

Swimming
Your child’s class will be having swimming lessons at Wavelengths Leisure Centre this term. The lessons will start on Friday 9th January and run for 10 weeks with the last lesson on Friday 20th March. Lessons start at 9.30am so children will need to arrive at school at 8.45am on Fridays. Ms Steels class will need to be in at 8.45am for the first half of term and Ms Coy’s class will need to be in at 8.45am after half term.

Your child will need an appropriate swimming costume (no bikinis, football shorts, leotards or knee length trunks) and a towel.

The children will be taken by coach to and from Wavelengths Leisure Centre. Due to the cost of coaches we are asking for a contribution of £1 per week towards travel costs. Please can you complete the attached ‘School Swimming Assessment Form’ and return to the class teacher with £10 towards the cost of the coach in an envelope. The form must be returned before the first lesson.  If you would like a paper copy of the form, please ask your class teacher or come to the school office.

Please remember that if your child is entitled to Pupil Premium, your contribution to the workshop and swimming has been covered by the funding we receive. You can check entitlement with your class teacher or the office.

Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Kind regards,
Year 5 Team
