As part of our Science and Geography learning, we will be visiting Creekside to learn about rivers and experience a river wade in Deptford Creek! During our visit, we will use fieldwork and classwork to observe, measure rate of flow, width, depth and record details of a local river in comparison to the Amazon; one of world’s most significant physical features.

The centre will provide us with waders and waterproofs to wear over our coats. Please see the information below about suitable clothing for the trip:

You don’t need any special clothes for visiting the Creek. Layers of old, warm clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty are best.Bring spare clothes to change into in case you get wet, including a change of socks.

Colder weather:

Do wear layers of old, warm clothes;

Do bring gloves and wear a hat;

Do wear a warm coat. The centre has a stock of waterproofs to cover your coat;

Do bring additional thick socks to keep your feet warm;

Avoid coats that are long (particularly below knee length), as they will dangle in the water, get dirty and wet;

Don’t wear skirts, as they are difficult to wear with waders.

Ms Pons’s class will visit the centre on Monday 19th February:

NOTE: THIS IS THE FIRST DAY BACK AFTER HALF TERM

We will register at the normal time, but will leave school promptly after the register.

We will not be able to wait for any children who are late.

Ms Morgan’s class will visit on Wednesday 21st February:

We will register at the normal time, but will leave school promptly after the register.

We will not be able to wait for any children who are late.

We are asking for a contribution of £7 per child. At Myatt Garden, we are committed to providing trips and events for the children. However, due to pressures on the school budget, we can only do so with your contributions, so it is very important that we receive your contribution as soon as possible. Please give the contribution in a named envelope to your class teacher. If your child qualifies for Pupil Premium, your contribution will be covered by funding we receive. You can check your child’s entitlement either with their class teacher or the school office.

Your child will require a packed lunch however, if your child receives free school meals the school will provide a packed lunch. Please inform the school of any relevant medical or other special circumstance affecting your child, including any treatment which may be required during the visit.

If you are able to come along and help us on the trip, please see your child’s class teacher.
