Information for Families: 13.9.21

I hope you have all been hearing lovely things from your children as they have settled back into their first full week of the new term. It’s an exciting time and we have all been impressed with the way they have got back into routines and responded to the challenges of their new class.

Drop off / pick up
Thank you for bearing with us whilst we have tried to find better ways for you to drop off and collect your children – the scaffolding around the KS2 building has just added to the difficulties.

Drop off
A reminder that the playground opens at 8.50am. KS2 children can walk to school independently in Year 5 and 6 if you have completed a form. School starts for KS2 at 9am prompt. Year 3 and 4 children will be encouraged to walk down to class at 8.55am in order to reduce congestion.

KS1 and Reception start at 9.15am. Adults must supervise their children in the playground or outside the classroom door until they go into class.

Pick up
In order to ease congestion, we will:
• open the middle gate on Upper Brockley Rd
• dismiss Year 3 from the top playground

Please wait in spaces that allow class lines to move smoothly into the playground and wait for the class to be ready before taking your child. This is the only way that we can be sure all children have been handed over safely.

At both drop off and pick up, please leave the site promptly and avoid gathering around the KS2 steps and the walkway by the pond gate.

Calling all gardening enthusiasts:
We have a great school allotment, where Reception and Year 1 classes grow fruit and vegetables with the support of parent volunteers. It’s an amazing opportunity for children to learn where food comes from, to learn gardening skills and to enjoy being in the natural world.

We have a lovely parent (Mo) who will head up the allotments this year, with the help of parent volunteers.

There is an informal meeting on Tuesday 14th September at 9:20 for anyone who is interested in working with small groups of children in the allotment. We will meet in the bottom playground, next to the canopy. All volunteers will need an enhanced DBS check before working with children, which will be arranged by school.

Clear out your cupboards
We are restocking our loose parts store in the playground and would love any donations of:
• wheeled suitcases
• buggies
• dolls/action figures
• cars/trucks/wheeled toys
• dressing up clothes/hats
• tarpaulin
• pots and pans
• wood

Basically, if you have anything a child could use imaginatively in their play and it does not have sharp edges, we’d love to take it off your hands!

Secondary Transfer
Over the next two months, all of our Year 6 parents and some Year 5 will be thinking about choosing the right secondary school for their child. We will be holding a Zoom meeting for Year 6 parents on Friday 17th at 4.00pm.

In the meantime you can check out when and how to visit local schools at: https://lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/education/schools/school-admission/applying-to-start-secondary-school/secondary-schools-open-days

Year 5 and 6 Pupil survey for Lewisham’s Embedding Race Equality Programme
Lewisham are inviting Year 5 and 6 pupils to share their views. The survey will be used to ascertain baseline information for the borough’s race equality work in schools. We are committed to developing our practice and ensuring we are an anti-racist school. It is essential that we know how young people really feel and therefore we would encourage Year 5 and 6 children to click the link and share their feedback.

Responses will be stored securely and results reported in the aggregate, rather than in terms of individuals or schools.
