Information for Families: 8.10.21

Happy Friday everyone!

I hope you have had a good week.

COVID Update

We have had our first case of COVID this week (in Reception). Schools are no longer involved in identifying close contacts – this is now done by ‘Test and Trace’. However, following an outbreak of coughing we are asking all families to be hyper-vigilant. If your child has any of the symptoms listed below:

  • A new continuous cough;
  • A high temperature or fever (37.8⁰C or above);
  • A loss or change in normal sense of taste or smell.

Please keep them at home and do a PCR test. Lateral flow tests should only be used when someone does not have any of the main three symptoms.  A wider set of symptoms include loss of appetite, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, extreme tiredness, headaches, joint pain, muscle ache, runny nose, sore throat, and sneezing.

We know that there are lots of colds out there at the moment, but we need to take all new symptoms seriously. Please inform us if your child has symptoms and/or the results of any tests taken. We really appreciate your continued support as we continue to limit any spread of the virus.

First Myatt Garden Head’s Visit

On Monday, Mrs Hilary Marvel visited our school. Mrs Marvel was appointed as Head Teacher at Myatt Garden in 1971 and opened the school in the summer term for 91 children.  She was keen to tour the school and visit all of the classes to see how the building had changed.  She was fascinated to meet some ex-pupils from the 70’s when she was head, but also to talk to present pupils about what they loved about the school and their learning.

She was impressed with our children’s politeness, attitude to their learning and the standard of work throughout the school.  Another highlight for Mrs Marvel was having the opportunity to look at some old photos and remember good times with the original staff team.

Mrs Marvel was kind enough to be interviewed by four of our Year 6 children which they plan to share with you next week.
